Indian women are known for their strength, zeal and passion; but there are a few who go beyond the challenges in their own lives to serve a greater cause; one such example is of Seema Rao.
Not only is she fierce, but a true beauty in all sense. Seema, is India’s first woman commando trainer, who has been training the Indian Special Forces for past 20 years, without even seeking any compensation.
She grew up listening to the tale of India’s struggle for Independence from her freedom fighter father, Prof. Ramakant Sinari, who helped in the liberation of Goa from the Portuguese. As a child, she always dreamed of serving her nation, and the opportunity to finally achieve this dream came true in face of her future husband, Major Deepak Rao,
She is one multi-faceted woman, who doesn’t only holds a 7th-degree black belt in military martial arts, but is also a firefighter, a combat shooting instructor, a scuba diver, an HMI medalist in rock climbing, and a Mrs India World pageant finalist.
Her husband, Major Rao, himself had been practicing martial arts since the early age of 12, and it was he, who introduced her and pushed her forward to claim her foothold in this empowering field.
Seema is one of the only 10 women in the world, who are certified Jeet Kune Do expert, a unique martial art form created by Bruce Lee in the 1960s.
Major Deepak has been Seema’s strength, her partner, her mentor and co-pioneer in the field of close quarter battle training. In 2011, he even received the President of India’s rank award for his 20 years of contribution to the Indian Army. Team India captain, Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Ace Indian shooter, Abhinav Bindra, also share the same honor.
